pH Monitoring

Acidic or alkaline extremes cause damaging effects in the airway and even worse damage to the lungs.  The longer and more severe the exposure, the greater the corresponding damage.  Complicating the effects of extreme pH is the similarity in symptoms and visual appearance of the epithelium.  Likewise, allergies, vocal abuse, sleep apnea and laryngopharyngeal reflux can manifest as symptoms that are difficult, if not impossible, to differentiate.

At Ear, Nose and Throat Associates of Waterbury, we use the latest technology to diagnose and treat extreme pH disorders.  This technology, called the Restech Dx-pH Measurement System, provides accurate, real-time measurement of airway pH, over an 18 to 48 hour time period, allowing us to capture critical information about a patient's pH during meal times, symptom occurrence and sleep/rest periods.

How it works:
The Dx-ph Measurement System collects airway pH data via a miniaturized sensor that is inserted into the airway via a nasal catheter probe.  The system measures/records airway pH every 1/2 second for up to 48 hours, while the patient inputs clinically relevant information such as meals, symptoms and supine positions with the press of a button.

The  Dx-pH Measurement System provides accurate pH measurement without  lengthy empiric trials and/or unnecessary exposure to medication.  The detailed, real-time data allows  physicians to develop faster diagnoses and more precise treatment plans for patients experiencing pH related disorders.
